ABOUT DR SARA SCHAMBORG

Sara is a BPS (British Psychological Society) chartered and HCPC (Health and Professions Council) registered Practitioner Psychologist, as well as an ISST (International Society of Schema Therapy) certified Advanced Schema Therapist, and an EMDR Therapist. Since qualifying as a psychologist in 2014, she has worked in a variety of services and sectors, including the NHS, criminal justice system, and the charity sector.

Sara has experience of working with adults with a wide range of difficulties, such as difficulties relating to low mood, anger, anxiety, self-critical thoughts, drug and alcohol misuse, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. She has extensive experience of working with individuals who have experienced trauma, including childhood trauma, as well as those with long-standing difficulties.

Sara has a special interest in working with those that struggle in their relationships to others, including family members, intimate partners, friends, colleagues, or in their relationship with themselves. This includes (but is not limited to) working with those that struggle to trust people or to stay emotionally connected to others, those who may struggle with low self-esteem or self-critical thoughts, or those that find that social situations or relationships contribute to them feeling anxious, angry, or low in mood.

Sara supports people to explore and understand their difficulties, whilst also supporting them to achieve their own goals.  She recognises the importance of proving a safe and non-judgemental space to those whom she works with, as well as working collaboratively to facilitate meaningful change.

Sara works in an integrated way, drawing on a variety of evidence-based approaches to meet the needs of the person she is working with, as she does not believe that there is one therapy approach that works for everyone. Sara mainly draws on Schema Therapy, EMDR Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), whilst also integrating skills from other relevant approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT).
